Facebook Marketplace drew attention in Mexico, but not for its strengths: fraud in the sale of cars and computers placed it at the center of recent conversation. Mercado Libre Autos, by contrast, capitalized on its ecosystem of shipping and deals for resale and secondhand products.
Kavak kept seminuevo (pre-owned vehicles) in focus, with the buying and selling of used cars and its digital channel as the main players. In secondhand fashion, GoTrendier established itself as a reference in the resale market, and Troquer brought premium fashion into the buying and selling conversation. Jüsto moved resale products and pre-owned brands within its digital offering, and Segundamano remained a well-known name despite traffic migrating to other platforms. OLX maintains its association with classifieds, while eBay and Vinted remain benchmarks for cross-border resale and pre-owned fashion.
Mexico's secondhand landscape is divided among mass marketplaces, car-specialized platforms, and digital fashion boutiques. The overarching challenge is trust: fraud on Facebook Marketplace shows that the growth of resale depends as much on supply as on buyer security.
