Sabritas has stirred up conversation around the Mexican snack with a brand image refresh and current promotions, in a move PepsiCo is preparing by betting on simpler ingredients.
The company's strategy isn't limited to its flagship brand: Doritos arrived with new flavor combinations, Ruffles appeared in the update of its portfolio, Cheetos kept its prominence, and Miss Vickie's is part of the same renewal plan. Mondelēz moved its portfolio in Mexico, and Ricolino gained visibility with the group's backing of the brand inside and outside the country. Krispy Kreme surprised with a seasonal edition, and Sabritones and Mafer keep their place on the savory snack shelf.
The Mexican snack category is running a double race: refreshing its image while adjusting the recipe without losing the appeal of promotions. Whoever manages to combine both will have the most contested shelf in the country.
